An amazing sensory sensation swings through Bridgestone Arena this week with Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria show. Spanish for “jubilation,” Alegria is certainly that! This two-and-a-half hour delight is phenomenally awe-inspiring, mind blowing and flat out triumphant.

Nine specific acts take to the elaborate stage with a live band and singers who add much to the excitement and “ooh and aah” factor of the show. All of the dynamic perfomances pay homage to the energy, power and beauty of youth. The dazzling trapeze artist during the opening number is alone worth the price of admission, and each act following just gets better and more breathtaking.

Whether it be the Flying Man, Mongolian contortionists, fire-knife dancers, the hand balancing man or the men who comprise the Aerial High Bar finale, the sheer display of what these talented athletes can do with their bodies is astonishing. While it’s hard to pick an absolute favorite, a special nod goes to the Power Track segment. It’s cool to see the stage floor open up to reveal an elongated, overlapping X-shaped trampoline that serves as the springboard for the most fanciful gymnastic feats ever seen.

A few clowns infuse much child-like charm throughout the show in between acts, appealing to both kids and adults.

One thing’s for certain — Cirque du Soleil: Alegria is an undeniable family treat!
