Experience the Excitement of Topgolf Crush

Experience the thrill of golf in a 21st century way. BY RYAN TILLMAN for "Summer in the City"

When a sports bar and golf driving range collide, it creates an explosion of unquenchable energy that latches on to everyone around. It’s kid friendly, too, and its name is Topgolf.

Topgolf, set to open in Nashville this fall, is a 21st century, new-age entertainment center. It combines the classic country club game of golf with the rowdy, passionate vibes of a sports bar.

Noah and I brought a few friends from school to the Topgolf Crush media preview at Nissan Stadium. It was fun smashing golf balls from turf tee stations onto the football field.

The atmosphere is unforgettable.

A DJ queues up Top 40 tracks, blaring hit tunes from the stadium’s speakers all night. Burger and brew vendors corner the hitting tees, distracting anyone from the frustration of a sub-par golf stroke. Friendly competition ensues as people dance, laugh and sing in between turns.

Topgolf has hit the sweet spot of celebration and athleticism. Many of my friends were skeptical walking in to the event, but all doubts were cast aside when they saw the set-up. Adrenaline and excitement, immediately enhanced by lively music, fueled the spirit of competition among them. Each of them raved about their experience throughout the night.

During your one-hour round of Topgolf Crush game time, up to six players can take turns aiming golf balls at targets ranging from 30 – 150 yards away on the field. A computer monitor tracks each player’s score much like a bowling alley.

TOPGOLF FACILITY OPENS IN NASHVILLE THIS FALL

When arriving to Topgolf Nashville location this fall (500 Cowan St., Nashville; opening date TBA), your family will be assigned to one of the 100+ climate controlled hitting bays. They are akin to bowling alley lanes. Each bay has a set of golf clubs and comfy couch seating. Balls dispense from a machine, allowing you to tee up and aim for one of many circular targets placed throughout the driving range.

Small microchips placed within the golf balls allow each swing to be closely tracked. A monitor inside the bay records the distance and exact location of the ball. Each shot receives points varying on the specific game being played at the time, promoting a spirit of competition among friends, family members or coworkers.

The party ambiance is one Topgolf excels at, but it’s not all it does. The facility will feature a full-service restaurant/bar, more than 200 HDTVs and free WiFi. Topgolf also provides a welcoming environment for families and children, with birthday parties and personal instruction available.
