Fly Away to Puerto Rico

by |

Immerse yourself in the colors, smells, tastes and sites that surround the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino in Puerto Rico.

Fly away to a land filled with colors, sites and sounds to totally satisfy your family’s adventurous side! As a U.S. territory, no passports are required for travel to Puerto Rico, so it’s perfect for families just starting kids on destination vacations.

Puerto Rico’s weather is just about as finicky as Tennessee’s and locals say that’s common throughout the year. So, if you just stand still for a minute or two, you can watch as rain clouds meander on by. That’s what we did during our stay at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and a whole lot more, too.

LET’S HAVE FUN!

Walks along the beach are different in Puerto Rico. Vendors stroll, selling freshly picked coconuts; they chop the top off right in front of you and stick a straw inside! You’ll see lots of coconuts in the trees and sand.

After your walk, get touristy and take in a bit of the history surrounding you.

The historic city of Old San Juan boasts impressive Spanish colonial architecture, rich culture, and even modern art. Start off with the City Tour you scheduled right at the resort so you can take in the hustle and bustle of the city. Your tour stops at the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico for paintings old and new and outdoor trails lined with sculptures.

Next, explore the grounds of the Castillo San Felipe del Morro. This national historic site offers tunnels for exploring and sentry posts for gazing. See what life was like living in the fort, whether as a soldier or prisoner. Spots all around the fort offer breathtaking views of land and sea.

You’ll be given free time to shop on your tour, so take in the many unique boutiques Old San Juan offers.

When you return to the resort, take a walk down Ashford Ave. to the bridge. The view over the lagoon is beautiful, and walking over the bridge, we spotted several manatees swimming nearby — just yards away from a little beach area crowded with families. It was an amazing sight to see.

Next, relax by the resort pool, which includes a large knee-deep area and water slides, too. Rest in sun or shade or visit the swim up bar! Plenty of family- and kid-friendly activities take place daily, and of course, Mom and Dad, don’t forget to try your luck in the casino!

TIME TO REPLENISH

The resort has several restaurants to enjoy. Red Coral Lounge — located off the lobby — serves up a quick bite and on some nights you can enjoy a live band. The newly renovated La Vista Latin Grill features a la carte and buffet style menus, so everyone can find something they like. There’s also the Wan Chai Noodle Bar located just inside the casino and the Coffee Merchant and Bake Shop in the lobby.

If the food from the resort isn’t enough, there are many choices right outside and within a short walking distance.

After all the fun, you’re certain to relax in your big, comfy bed. Rest up! You’ll want to get back up and do it all again the next day.
