Tickets are on sale now for a new season on theater in Hendersonville.
The Hendersonville Performing Arts Company (HPAC) announces its 2018-19 theater season, so mark your calendars for these upcoming shows:
MEL BROOKS’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
Sept. 13 – 30, 2018
Based on the popular movie, this show is recommended for mature audiences only. Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.
THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE
Nov. 22 – Dec. 9, 2018
Good for all ages, the classic C.S. Lewis story about a magical land on the other side of a mystical wardrobe and the adventure of three siblings who find their way there.
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
Feb. 7 – 24, 2019
This timeless musical has been loved by audiences for generations. Set in the 1850s, a young cook marries a grizzled woodsman after a brief courtship. When they return to the farm, Milly is shocked to meet her new husband’s six ill-mannered brothers, all of whom live in his cabin. She promptly begins teaching the brothers proper behavior, and most importantly, how to court a woman. But after the brothers kidnap six local girls during a town barn-raising, a group of indignant villagers tries to track them down.
DIXIE SWIM CLUB
March 29 – April 14, 2019
Five Southern women, whose friendships began years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to get together. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.
SHREK THE MUSICAL
May 23 – June 9
This family favorite musical brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage. It’s the tale of an unlikely hero — an ogre — who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.
