Another new Murfreesboro school set to open by the next school year. Groundbreaking ceremony is July 17.
The 13th elementary school in Murfreesboro is about to begin construction! The growing city saw a need for a new Murfreesboro school to offset the county’s growth. The other schools that serve that side of town are at capacity. The new school is set to open for the 2019-20 school year. The official groundbreaking for the school is Tuesday, July 17 at 5 p.m. The school site is located at 3275 St. Andrews Drive, just off Veterans Parkway.
Come hear about the new two-story school that will serve up to 1,000 students. Set on a 25-acre campus, the school will use geothermal heating and cooling. The current Overall Creek and John Pittard Elementary schools use these methods which save thousands of dollars each year in electric bills. This fall, an appointed school naming committee will seek names from the community and staff to present to the City School Board for final approval. Until there’s an official name, the school shall be referenced as Southwest Elementary.
