For four years, Studio Tenn has dazzled audiences with phenomenal musicals with the occasional straight play thrown into the mix. The company’s current offering of Frost/Nixon truly solidifies itself as a bona fide force in town, because this production is absolute perfection. It’s gripping.

This Tony Award-winning play premiered in London’s West End in 2006, and Studio Tenn nails it on all counts. It’s an absolute masterpiece on stage! Amazing drama rooted in history going back to 1977 and an ultimate challenge of wits!

Playing out a big moment in American history, Robert Kiefer’s portrayal of Richard Nixon is brilliant! He perfectly serves up “Tricky Dick” so magnificently across the board. Every nuance and mannerism, Kiefer has it all down pat and does it with supreme excellence. He definitely knows how to play a slick politician to the hilt.

Likewise, David Maddox as David Frost is remarkable as the journalist on a mission to put the former president on “trial.” The sparring that takes place on stage between his character and Kiefer’s makes for outstanding theater … and at times it’s intensely nail-biting … the gripping reality is the moment you realize the two characters are emotional mirrors of one another.

Studio Tenn definitely delivers a top-notch production with this show. Frost/Nixon is best served as a date night outing. Kids won’t “get” it necessarily, and that’s OK… Mom and Dad need a fun date night out on the town!
