Private school options abound in Middle Tennessee, and here’s the scoop on what’s new at several of them:

Baylor School

Mary Loveless, Ph.D., is the Chattanooga boarding school’s new director of the IdeaLab, a place for students to gather, share resources and knowledge, collaborate on projects and more. IdeaLab is also a meeting place for the robotics club and a new engineering design class. The school has a new $4.5 million riverfront facility for the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute on Baylor School’s campus. The Covenant School

Ignite is a new program for students in grades 5 and 6 which aims to strengthen student passion for finding self identity in Christ. It also helps them grow in faithfulness, scholarship, responsibility and relationship to God and others. The Covenant School is located at 33 Burton Hills Drive, Nashville. Currey Ingram Academy

The new Mustang Makerspace features 3D printers, LEGOs, LittleBits, Makey Makey kits, a green screen set, clay for creating videos or claymation for stop-motion animation projects. The Edison School

Now accredited through AdvancED and SACS, The Edison School (2100-B Nashville Pike, Gallatin) has new programs. Project Jumpstart pairs kindergartners with teachers who are also professional therapists. The E-Squared program allows kids in grades K-8 to work toward a regular high school diploma with additional classroom support plus extended time for mastery. Franklin Classical School

With a new facility, Franklin Classical School (now at 208 Church St., Franklin) has more space to allow for growth. Melanie Hill is the new development director. New teachers include Russ May and Jamie Parolini. The expanding academic program includes an honors track for all  high school math and science courses. Goodpasture Christian School

Plans are underway to add a new middle school building to the growing Madison campus. The facility will have audio/video recording studios and an entrepreneurial center. Hendersonville Christian Academy

Hendersonville Christian Academy (355 Old Shackle Island Road) hosts an inaugural Crusader Sports Jam and 5K at HCA North Campus (570 New Shackle Island Road) on Saturday, April 8. It features activities for all ages, including the 5K, flag football, a baseball challenge, inflatables, food trucks and more. The school is also developing new athletic fields. Linden Waldorf School

Lipscomb Academy

Lipscomb Academy (3901 and 4517 Granny White Pike, Nashville) celebrates 125 years this year. It offers a new strings program in fine arts. The new $8 million McCadams Athletic Center is now open. Montgomery Bell Academy

Montgomery Bell Academy (4001 Harding Road, Nashville) celebrates 150 years this spring. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, MBA hosts a 150th Year Celebration starting with a soccer game pitting alumni against the current junior varsity team. An alumni lacrosse game will also take place as well as the ENDADA Arts Festival (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.), a cocktail hour, dinner, fireworks and live music. Saint Ann School

Ella Grace Robertson recently received the National Catholic Education Association’s Inaugural Youth Virtues Valor and Vision Award β€” only 10 students nationwide are selected for this accolade. This fall, Saint Ann School (5105 Charlotte Ave., Nashville) launches the Hand in Hand Options Program for elementary grades to provide Catholic inclusive education to students with disabilities. St. Bernard Academy

Saint Edward School

Saint Rose of Lima School

Saint Rose of Lima School (1601 N. Tennessee Blvd., Murfreesboro) uses the Handwriting Without Tears program for ages 3 through first grade. In addition, the school offers flexible seating in one of its classrooms so students can choose how they sit β€” on a stool, traditional chair, crate seat or yoga ball. University School of Nashville

Quinton Walker is the new head of high school at University School of Nashville (2000 Edgehill Ave.). He has a Doctorate of Education in Leadership from Vanderbilt University, a Masters of Education in Leadership from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s from Duke University.
